What to Expect from Summer Training and How to Prepare

Get ready, teachers and school leaders, Summer Training with Summit Learning is just around the corner!

We’re here to help you use Summit Learning to supplement, strengthen, and solidify your school’s vision of preparing kids to succeed both within and beyond the classroom.

So hold on, it’s going to be a bumpy (but fun) ride!

What you’ll learn at Summer Training

Think of Summer Training as a boot camp for our program. We’ll go over what you need to implement Summit Learning effectively at your school, including some classroom-style learning and hands-on training.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Facilitate projects in the classroom
  • Mentor your students
  • Help students master content
  • Guide students in learning at their own pace
  • Collaborate with grade team members to achieve shared teaching and learning goals

We don’t sugar-coat anything, either. The Summit Learning approach to teaching may take some getting used to; because it really is a different way of teaching. But, you can rest assured knowing the Summit Learning approach was designed by learning scientists and educators who study how kids learn best. And everything you learn at Summer Training is meant to help you onboard students and start the year with ease.

But here’s our favorite part: We will have in-depth conversations that take you back to your roots and remind you why you got into education in the first place.

Is the Prework really necessary?

Doing the Prework gets the foundational information out of the way and allows us to focus on strengthening the fundamentals, instead. It also saves us (and you) valuable time. What you learn through the Prework comes to life at Summer Training. It gives you an opportunity to see how it all comes together. It also leaves more time for teambuilding (and fun).

Summer Training survival tips

Bring your better laptop, not just a netbook.
Oh, and remember to bring your laptop charger, too. You’d be surprised by how many people forget.

Summer Training is hard work. Get enough rest every night.
Don’t worry; you’ll have plenty of time to bond with colleagues throughout each day.

Keep an open mind through the event.
You’ll be learning lots of new and innovative material.

Try not to get frustrated with yourself.
It’s a level playing field for both school leaders and teachers. Everyone brings their own expertise and is learning together.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
We want you to start the year feeling prepared. Feel free to raise your hand as much as you want.

If you still have questions after Summer Training is over, that’s okay. Every school gets set up with a Success Manager who meets with your school leader at least once before the school year begins. Your Success Manager is with you throughout your Summit Learning journey, too.
