How Summit Learning Made Me a Better Student

Having the opportunity to be a part of Summit Learning as a freshman at Greater Johnstown High School has helped me to grow tremendously as a student and person. It has allowed me to become a better student and has taught me some valuable life skills by teaching me how to set goals and achieve them, allowing me to work ahead, requiring me to be responsible for making sure I stay on track, and allowing me to choose what to work on each day.

To begin, Summit has helped me by allowing me to set goals each day for every class. Since school started, I have set a goal for each class every single day, which has really helped me to be more productive and accomplish my goals. As a result, I have greatly improved at setting specific, realistic goals, which will be very useful my entire life.

Along with allowing me to set goals each day, another way that Summit has helped me to become a better student is by not only allowing me to work ahead, but also allowing me to choose what I work on each day. Letting me work ahead in classes allows me to use that time instead to work on a class that I may be behind in. This helps me to prioritize my time, gives me a very flexible schedule to work with, allows me to use my time however I think would be most beneficial to me, and helps me to stay on track in each class.

Furthermore, Summit has taught me how to be responsible for my own learning. I have to take responsibility to make sure that I am either on track or ahead of the blue pacing bar on the platform. Since there isn’t direct instruction from teachers every day, I need to make sure that I understand everything that I am working on and I need to be responsible for asking for help or guidance when I need it.

The wonderful opportunity of being a part of Summit has helped me become a better student and person by teaching me how to set goals and achieve them, allowing me to work ahead, requiring me to be responsible for making sure I stay on track, and allowing me to choose what to work on each day. I am thankful that GJHS adopted Summit Learning.
