Summit Public Schools is ending the 2017-18 school year strong by recognizing the achievements and contributions of all schools in the Summit Learning community. This year’s debut Summit Learning Spotlight is a way to honor those achievements and encourage sharing of personalized learning best practices.
After one year, 8th graders from Rhode Island’s Woonsocket school district who used the Summit Learning approach outperformed their non-Summit Learning peers on the state’s annual PARCC assessment in math and reading. District leadership has also observed an increase in students’ growth mindsets toward their learning.
Handley Middle School’s leadership decided to implement the Summit Learning Program in 2016 as a holistic approach to personalized learning for students. After one year of implementation across its 6th grade classrooms, Handley measured about a 63% decrease in discipline referrals and saw annual state test scores rise.
